Course Overview
The NRSWA Street Works Unit 2 (O1) course provides operatives with the essential skills required to manage site safety and traffic control on footways and carriageways.
Delivered through a combination of classroom instruction and practical exercises, delegates learn to interpret site layout plans, establish safe working zones, and correctly deploy warning signs, barriers, and temporary lighting. The course also covers the setup, operation, and dismantling of temporary traffic control systems, including stop/go boards and portable traffic lights.
By adhering strictly to the statutory Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice (the "Red Book"), candidates ensure the safety of site personnel, motorists, and vulnerable road users. Successful completion awards candidates their official SWQR registration for Unit O1.
Prerequisites:
Candidates must be at least 16 years old, physically fit to participate in practical site exercises, and possess a good understanding of spoken and written English. Suitable PPE (high-visibility clothing, safety boots, and hard hat) is required for practical sessions.
